Coshcast S6E16: Fans review their club’s 2018
This week on the Coshcast, we look back at what was an incredible year of football. To help us do that, we asked fans to tell us how they felt 2018 went for their clubs.
This week on the Coshcast, we look back at what was an incredible year of football. To help us do that, we asked fans to tell us how they felt 2018 went for their clubs.
This week on the Coshcast,
Shaqiri shakes Southampton, City give Cardiff a lamping and United can’t park the bus at home for fear of getting a clamping. Elsewhere, Arsenal and Spurs scrape wins, West Ham hold Chelsea at Yarm’s length, and in Italy, Juve’s wheels continue to spin.
Fraud or GOAT, Mumu of the Week and a special guest adds the icing to the cake.
“The time has arrived for Canadian soccer supporters, players, coaches and everyone in the game who’ve long dreamt for a league to call our own.”
It’s important to remember that the vast majority of the French squad is originally of African descent. They didn’t shy away from their roots, in fact they used it to unify the squad and bring the non-Africans aboard and Pogba was the architect of this. If you didn’t smile watching Antoine Griezmann trying to shaku shaku with the African boys then you might just be an angry old man.
This week on the Coshcast:
West Ham have signed Felipe Anderson, Cristiano Ronaldo has joined Juventus, France have won the World Cup and Vladimir Putin has gone from handing out golden medals to dossiers with golden showers in the space of two days.

Toni Kroos redeems himself, Iran almost knock out Portugal and so much VAR. There’s been so much […]
You thought we’d left you, didn’t you? Never fear, the Coshcast is here after a quick summer holiday and there’s plenty to discuss.
He was labelled by the Argentine media as ‘having a bucket on his head’ after some spotted his inability to pick his head up for a pass, and his tendency to lose possession on needless dribbles.
As the buildup to the quadrennial summer showpiece continues, one can hardly be less enthusiastic about the fact that it is being hosted in uncharted territory – Russia. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that once the images of the fans, the team colour, and the festivities begin alongside […]
I was too young to understand what was happening when the Super Eagles set the world alight at USA ’94. Due to time difference, my parents deemed it too late for me to stay up to watch Nigeria beat Brazil and then Argentina to win Gold at the […]
“What a year!”, they’d say. “Slobodan Milosevic was tried, the Queen Mother died, Switzerland joined the UN and England won the World Cup. The people swam in golden rivers of lager and ‘Eng-er-land Naa Naa’ was the default ringtone on every phone.”
We’re joined by CBC’s Tom Harrington as we look back on the weekend’s Premier League action. Arsenal were wobbly at Wembley and got thrashed 1-0 as only Petr kept Spurs in check, it was the De Bruyne and Aguero show at the Etihad where City put five past a lackluster Leicester, and we’ll also chat about easy wins for Liverpool and Newcastle.
It would not surprise anyone if I say that Marcelo Bielsa is by far one of the most enigmatic figures in the world of the beautiful game. After all, why do players, coaches, fans and even journalists speak so highly of a coach whose record boils down to three Argentine League titles and an Olympic gold medal with Argentina’s U-23 team?
We all know the severity of the situation in war-torn Syria and the national team’s progress in World Cup qualifying was a ray of hope in an otherwise bleak situation. Unfortunately, for those of us who love an underdog story, Australia won in extra time.
Today on this truncated Coshcast we pore over the remains of the Champions League final, deplore Sergio Ramos, Ronaldo shouts ‘vamos’ and Buffon deals with another loss. We also bring you old England in a Tony Adams-laden Mumu of the Week and New England as we look back at Toronto FC’s away defeat.
You don’t buy Ozil then play him out wide, or play him in front of sub-par defensive players in midfield. You don’t buy Ozil then stop playing possession football. All mismatches between Ozil as a player and Arsenal as a team.
It seems that France really isn’t crazy about sport, certainly not year round, and the half empty stadiums I’ve been witnessing when watching the games stand in testament to that. Zizou’s projection onto a national monument was a powerful gesture; here was the son of Algerian immigrants who had made it to great heights from the roughest parts of Marseilles. A symbol for the secular post-racial republic France viewed itself as. But with a new dawn, the symbol is lost, the light from a single bulb struggling vainly to hold back the flood from a star.

The England national team – A football club so richly steeped in national dishonour they would be more aptly associated with Marcus Junius Brutus than seen as the inventors of the greatest sport of all time. A team so unjustly engulfed in optimism, they are, somehow, masters of under-performing – even though they have only ever won one major competition in their pathetic 141 year history. A team so shit that their fans are forced to quote a senile, fair-weathered, narcissistic old man like Pele in a bid to gain credibility.

So, Chelsea ended up winning the league in unspectacular fashion last weekend, and now there is not much else to play for. Or is there? After dramatic finishes in the past couple of years, it is a bit underwhelming when a season finishes without any real surprises. Nonetheless, […]

Watching Arsenal in the Champions League is much akin to going to an extremely good strip club (I’d imagine). They are sexy and exciting, exotic and enticing, and yet after you’ve spent a good deal of money to watch them for an hour and a half, you are likely to be left achingly frustrated.

A Bundesliga aficionado will come at you hard with impeccably high fan attendance figures, mercurial stadia and passionate fan support with – bar Bayern Munich – relatively good financial equality between clubs. A La Liga advocate will always argue that the Spanish league houses the world’s best talents as well as cite Spanish clubs’ recent domination of European competitions. English fans’ best retort has predictably been the high competitive level between Premier League teams.
