Manchester United and Ajax Amsterdam will battle it out on Wednesday for a European trophy. This sounds like the type of statement that would have been fitting in the 1990s given United’s dominance in England and Ajax’s Dutch and European legacy.

It is the way the club is run that makes me irate. Perez was voted in based on his promises of delivering “La Decima” – the elusive 10th Champions League – to the club as well as building another side full of “Galacticos”, which is just a fancy name for having a fine footballing harem.
