Ronaldo’s stunner and the best bicycle kicks ever seen

With all the attention being placed on the Portuguese magician, it seemed as if no one else had ever done such a thing (guilty as charged). Rio Ferdinand asked on Twitter which was better; Rooney’s vs. City or this vs. Juventus? We personally think Ronaldo because Rooney’s was a shinner, but who else deserves to be mentioned? See below.

Tales From The Top Flight – Champions League Edition

I spent at least five minutes last night trying to remember a better Champions League debut. I recall Rooney getting a hat-trick for United on his first time in a red shirt when he was young, fit and pretty good but I don’t think anything comes close to Leicester City. Ranieri might be aiming for third place in the group but his players clearly have other ideas, racing to a 3-0 win over Club Brugge. It was that comfortable for them Mahrez even scored a penalty, which complimented his free kick rather nicely.

Has United’s Re-build Gone Too Far?

Almost three months ago, I had the good fortune to be asked to write a preview for the good lads at Under The Cosh as to what I thought was going to happen during United’s summer transfer window.

Now that the hilarious and terrifying events of this summer’s business have thankfully concluded, there’s no better time to look back and see if I was right or wrong.

Buying A Striker? Good Luck

Backup strikers at top clubs these days have to be one – if not a combination of – the following:

Relatively unambitious (Remy).
Too old to expect a first team spot (Drogba) or too young and unestablished (Wilson) to expect a first team spot.
In decline or poor form and thus understanding that they do not merit a first team place (Falcao, Soldado, Van Persie).
Willing and able to play another position in order to get game time (Walcott, Welbeck).

What’s your position?

In the mid-90s had you told Romario that his primary function was to serve as a snow-blower for Luis Figo, he’d have probably knocked you out or died laughing. These days, the game’s poachers or “fox-in-the-box” types like Chicharito, Defoe and Soldado are staggering around in a daze, wondering what happened to the football they knew, and whether they’ll get a flick on from a target man ever again.

Manchester United – Season Review

Louis van Gaal’s first season at Manchester United has been fun to watch from a neutral point of view. Big signings failing to make an impact, players who were once thrown on the scrap-heap coming back to prove their worth, a philosophical battle between 3-5-2 and 4-3-3…we’ve seen it all. Here to give us a United perspective on the whole season, is Ken Frampton. Follow Ken on Twitter at @kframpton
