Messi gets another Ballon GOAT with Rapinoe, Allison and De Ligt in tow, Liverpool and Leicester keep everyone else at bay, Dele leads Spurs down the Alli way and at the Emirates, Emery has had his day.
Messi gets another Ballon GOAT with Rapinoe, Allison and De Ligt in tow, Liverpool and Leicester keep everyone else at bay, Dele leads Spurs down the Alli way and at the Emirates, Emery has had his day.
Mourinho’s last roll of the dice, Solskjaer, Emery and others are on ice, Liverpool’s Christmas fixtures are not very nice and when it comes to recruitment, Pochettino desperately needs some advice.
Pep pops as City are rocked at Anfield, but is the Catalan approaching the end of a cycle?
Arsenal can’t keep up with Leicester who are on their bicycle, Chelsea are riding high still, and Pochettino looks like he might cry.
All Chelsea & Ajax do is score in a 4-4 draw, Inter take the lead against Dortmund but can’t close the door, and against Slavia Prague, Barcelona are frighteningly poor.
McTominay and Aubameyang save their respective incompetent managers as fans of both clubs look at their teams and think “you aren’t the same person I fell in love with”.
A wave of the magic Wanda and Icardi arrives in Paris, so too does a misused goalkeeper by the name of Keylor Navas, Mkhitaryan flies to Rome and promptly gets stuck in traffic, and Alexis Sanchez to Inter is unlikely to leave many defences in a panic.
Arsenal go top, Manchester United flop, Liverpool beat the Alpine Klopp and Spurs put City’s winning run to a stop. Elsewhere Lampard’s finding it damn hard unlike Pukki who’s got four in two, see?
The Premier League is back, City and Liverpool went on the attack, they’ve made signings but it was Eriksen that Spurs lacked, Arsenal finally gave Chambers a crack, and don’t worry Chelsea fans, Lampard is safe from the sack. For now.
TV money this, TV money that. It’s all we seem to hear these days in relation to the English Premier League. Normally by early July we’ve heard about blockbuster signing after blockbuster signing.
A once great manager returns to his former club in their hour of need, but don’t worry, we won’t just talk about Ranieri, because Zidane’s back too.
Some will say for both teams, the product on the pitch alone is worth celebration. Some will say consistent Champions League participation is enough. There also those who say that this period of stability is an accomplishment. To understand the last point, let’s remember where these clubs were before their current managers.
Football is no longer for the common person. It’s quickly becoming a soulless money spinning exercise but the Super League would be the final nail in the coffin. One that rich and incredibly corrupt football executives would love to bring forward sooner rather than later.
Manchester United Lindelot to be desired as Spurs break old habits at Old Trafford, Wolves hold City in a case of headers and Bolys at Molineaux, Arsenal once again challenge their opponents to a game of “who can be a bigger shambles?” but win because it was West Ham.
We’ve got the rest of the Premier League action including Chelsea, Liverpool, and new title contenders Watford, a quick European run down which sounds like something you order off a menu in a red light district, and our usual favourite features. On we go.
It’s not your shield, it’s not our shield, it’s the Community Shield and we don’t care about it either but we’ll touch on it anyway.
Positionally, however, it feels as if he can’t help but be sacrificed. If Ozil is fit, Mkhitaryan won’t play in his best position – as a #10. Due to the lack of other good wide options, his most-likely role will be on the right, where he’ll be expected to come inside and link up with Ozil and the striker, leaving space for Bellerin to overlap (and put in terrible crosses).
Lukaku being a flat track bully is an indisputable fact based on these statistics. The question is whether it is his fault. The answer, for the most part, is no.
Vieira turns to Pirlo and Giovinco becomes peerless as Toronto FC smash four past New York City FC and we team up with Daniel Rouse to preview the English Premier League season.
Ronald Koeman has stated that Ross Barkley will definitely leave Everton this summer. The Cosh discuss whether Barkley has made the right choice, where he may want to go, and what his realistic choices may be.
For a while, United seemed to be focusing on replacing the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic with one (or maybe two) of Alvaro Morata, Andrea Belotti or Romelu Lukaku. So far, United haven’t been able to push a striker through the door. As a result, Mourinho is now focusing on central midfield. If reports are to be believed Jose will be reunited with his former Chelsea charge Nemanja Matic. Let’s dive right in and analyze this potential transfer.
Mohamed Salah’s move from Roma to Liverpool appears all but done. The 25 year old who reached double figures in goals and assists in Serie A last term will join the Merseysiders for a lot of money (the exact amount remains unclear), and he’s an exciting addition to the team, and the league. The question is, of course, where does he fit in?
Dustin Hoffman once famously said “There’s a rebirth that goes on with us continuously as human beings. I don’t understand, personally, how you can be bored. I can understand how you can be depressed, but I just don’t understand boredom”.
The decisiveness and rapidness with which Arsenal have tried to do their business this transfer window, whether internally or externally, suggests a shift in approach.
The FA Cup Final, Manchester United’s silly “treble”, the upcoming Champions League Final, Totti’s emotional farewell…it’s been a hectic week in the world of football. Look back over it with us in the following articles and podcast:

We start this week with the ever romantic FA Cup in which Millwall manage to be racist, injure Harry Kane and pop Vincent Janssen’s cherry in one afternoon, Manchester United try to bully Chelsea and find that they Kante after Herrera’s error, Arsenal find their level and Manchester City make Pep so happy.
There are no periods for patient rebuilding anymore as evident with the constant sacking of managers. Chairmen are now results oriented and will buy to win no matter what the cost. Will any one team develop into a dominant force in the foreseeable future?

You would imagine if Tony Pulis’s Stoke had ever conceded a header to Mesut Ozil that the current WBA manager would have done quite a lot of naked headbutting after the match.

David Moyes has accepted his charge of misconduct without appeal, to make sure he is not banned for the relegation six pointer with Hull. He went against the advice of his players, who would have loved him to have been banned for that one.
Leicester took one look at Chelsea’s £60m a year deal with Nike and reckoned they could get a bit of that action if they continue to defend their title as poorly as their predecessors.
Louis van Gaal wanted “virtual reality” training for United last season. Rooney was one step ahead for once, he has been living in a virtual reality for about 18 months, one where he is still a good player. Still, it was Rooney who was once again summoned from the bench to miskick the ball to a United player and claim it as an assist. Jose has it sussed now, give him ten minutes here and there and the damage should be minimal.
Thank Christ we didn’t appoint Roberto Martinez, or I’d be writing this from my prison cell.
Sahko handed in a transfer request in a very modern way, airing his grievance with King Klopp via Snapchat of all things. If he was slightly ahead of Yaya Toure in the “likely to get a game in the League Cup soon” stakes, he has certainly slipped.
Mourinho drops Rooney and the resulting earthquake changes the footballing landscape radically enough that it allows Arsenal to finally and emphatically defeat Chelsea. At Anfield Klopp’s Redmen give out a Hull of a beating leaving Mike Phelan a little down on his birthday…

While not every club can be Athletic Bilbao, in an era of globalization, obscene wages, gated communities and made-for-TV kick-off times, local players are just about the last thing the fans have to relate to, and clubs will ignore that element at their own peril.
