All Chelsea & Ajax do is score in a 4-4 draw, Inter take the lead against Dortmund but can’t close the door, and against Slavia Prague, Barcelona are frighteningly poor.
This week on the Coshcast,
Liverpool were always going to be the better side against United but Shaqiri makes Xherdan of it as the Reds ran the field at Anfield, and Man City fans say a Hail Mary as Jesus’ mother returns their Brazilian striker to form.

United is a house in disarray with agents of chaos at every turn. Returning this once-magical fortress back to its past glories will require upheaval. This may be slow and it will be definitely continue to be painful, but one thing is for sure, the process can only truly begin with a change in direction.
Manchester United Lindelot to be desired as Spurs break old habits at Old Trafford, Wolves hold City in a case of headers and Bolys at Molineaux, Arsenal once again challenge their opponents to a game of “who can be a bigger shambles?” but win because it was West Ham.
We’ve got the rest of the Premier League action including Chelsea, Liverpool, and new title contenders Watford, a quick European run down which sounds like something you order off a menu in a red light district, and our usual favourite features. On we go.
It’s not your shield, it’s not our shield, it’s the Community Shield and we don’t care about it either but we’ll touch on it anyway.
It’s important to remember that the vast majority of the French squad is originally of African descent. They didn’t shy away from their roots, in fact they used it to unify the squad and bring the non-Africans aboard and Pogba was the architect of this. If you didn’t smile watching Antoine Griezmann trying to shaku shaku with the African boys then you might just be an angry old man.
In a game in which both sides seemed to have a lack of motivating factors behind them, Chelsea were slight pre-match underdogs. The fans were the only ones in the stadium providing a typical cup final atmosphere after the morning’s Royal Wedding bonanza, as the football began slowly. Both […]
Arsenal finally pull their finger out as it’s Wenger out at the Emirates – we look back at the career of the Gandalf of football – the glory and the yawns, the glamour and the false dawns, and ask who is the right man for this brave new era, from Max Allegri to Patrick Vieira.
Elsewhere there’s FA Cup action to discuss as Mourinho mourinhos his team past Spurs who spurs themselves right in the spurs, and in things you never thought would happen, Giroud goes on a mazy dribble, and Napoli beat Juventus in Turin.
This week on the Coshcast, we use the international break to talk about anything other than the internationals. Instead, it’s a manager special, with a special guest. Enjoy.
Yes ladies and gentleman like the plausible but threat of nuclear war, the Coshcast has returned. And what a week to do so!
Pep vs. José. Mourinho vs. Guardiola. Real Madrid vs. Barcelona. Manchester United vs. Manchester City. Speaking about two of the best working coaches in the world is to refer to a great chasm in the philosophy of football. Indeed, it could be said that the abyss that divides them pertains to a crucial question: Why do we play, watch and love football?
Like the Seattle Sounders’ feelings of insecurity and inferiority, the Coshcast is back.
Where else to start but with Toronto FC and the MLS Cup as we’re joined by former TFC employee Asif Hossain as we look back at the big game, bask in the warm glow of a drunk Jozy Altidore, and look at who may be shown the door this winter.
He is a shadow of his former self – once a breath of fresh air in a world of football with established elites.
Can Mourinho get the same level of performance out of his side when there isn’t a vendetta involved?
They’ve been an enigma this season. They’ve played good football, they’ve controlled games and created chances aplenty. This is the football every Manchester United fan wanted to see after the days of LVG’s “possession” game, filled with sideways and backwards passes. This is exactly what every Red Devil wanted to see after David Moyes oversaw the rapid demise of the club in the first season after Sir Alex retired. It’s not quite all that glorious currently though, as their league position remains a bit of a mystery.
This season on the Coshcast we’ve highlighted a few quotes from managers in the English Premier League. Sure, most of them have come from David Moyes but give us a break, the man is a legend! This week has been a hall of fame week for unbelievable statements from the bosses of the league. We thought you’d enjoy a quick round up. Share your thoughts in the comments as usual.
It’s the Coshcast and unlike David Moyes’ latest comments, you’re unlikely to regret that you’ve heard it.
According to some simply horrifying football “news” outlets, Manchester United are readying a 173m pound or 200m euro deal to sign Neymar from Barcelona. The Cosh boys have a throw down on the topic as we aim to get to the bottom of this.
What is Jose Mourinho trying to do by defending Pogba so ferociously? Alex: Relieve the perceived pressure on Pog. The press and fans are obviously paying very close attention to every Pogba performance such that he is questioned every time he isn’t brilliant. This is the state of […]
Spanish deep-lying playmaker Xabi Alonso today announced that he will retire at the end of this season. The Cosh boys discuss their memories of him, and how he compared to his compatriot, Xavi Hernandez.
There are no periods for patient rebuilding anymore as evident with the constant sacking of managers. Chairmen are now results oriented and will buy to win no matter what the cost. Will any one team develop into a dominant force in the foreseeable future?
You would imagine if Tony Pulis’s Stoke had ever conceded a header to Mesut Ozil that the current WBA manager would have done quite a lot of naked headbutting after the match.
Chelsea go on the Conte attack to earn their Spurs, Liverpool continue to roll onwards despite being twice Ndonged, Arsenal defeat Bournemouth despite Ake at the back, and Mourinho may need to hit a bottle of red after getting a red for hitting a bottle.

It is saying something when United fans are starting to reminisce misty eyed over the glory day of David Moyes. I mean, even Van Gaal didn’t manage to spend this much money and lose three games in a week. Not that it is all Mourinho’s fault, of course. The referees are to blame, as is Watford’s “luck” in making Rooney, Fellaini and Zlatan look somewhat average.
I spent at least five minutes last night trying to remember a better Champions League debut. I recall Rooney getting a hat-trick for United on his first time in a red shirt when he was young, fit and pretty good but I don’t think anything comes close to Leicester City. Ranieri might be aiming for third place in the group but his players clearly have other ideas, racing to a 3-0 win over Club Brugge. It was that comfortable for them Mahrez even scored a penalty, which complimented his free kick rather nicely.

The 2015-16 Manchester United season truly had it all. There were some great goals and results and some baffling substitutions. We had some exciting young players breaking through and an evacuation at Old Trafford. Hell, even ‘sex masochism’ and an FA Cup triumph.
It’s been a difficult season for Chelsea fans. This one has stronger opinions than most. Nanu Emannuel Ugwu takes us through a season of inexplicable behaviour, decisions and performances.
It’s the Coshcast, coming at you like Ashley Young into a Webcam.
Week after week, United supporters watch as their team struggles with incomprehensible tactical decisions, lackadaisical performance levels and being generally not good enough. I asked Ryan Giggs to steal a glance and fill us in on the Dutchman’s stratagems and deepest thoughts.
Every passing day brings us closer to Antonio Conte’s first season in charge of Chelsea, but how will the Italian do at the club that has expectations so few have managed to meet? His first season is likely to go rather well. Chelsea currently sit in tenth place […]
When Chelsea were in free-fall in the late, dark days of Jose Mourinho’s second reign, we asked the biggest Chelsea fan we know to tell us what on earth was going on. Part 1 of Faisal Pasha’s answer dealt with the misery that has been Chelsea’s defense and midfield this season. Here is part 2. Let’s see who else is to blame…

It’s the Coshcast, and unlike Jose Mourinho, we have plenty to say as the Klopp effect takes effect at Stamford Bridge.
No matter what anyone tells you, the mood within Chelsea is just not right at the moment and it’s all Jose’s fault. Players are lacking confidence and it’s in the managers job description to do something about that. The players are no longer running into proverbial brick walls for him. Aside from that, the spat with Eva Carneiro is further proof that the Special One may need to have his head examined.

Backup strikers at top clubs these days have to be one – if not a combination of – the following:
Relatively unambitious (Remy).
Too old to expect a first team spot (Drogba) or too young and unestablished (Wilson) to expect a first team spot.
In decline or poor form and thus understanding that they do not merit a first team place (Falcao, Soldado, Van Persie).
Willing and able to play another position in order to get game time (Walcott, Welbeck).
The Coshcast returns and we dive straight into the Premier League where City beat Chelsea 3-0 and like a young man on Maury Povich receiving a positive paternity test, Mourinho declares it a fake result.
