Like Ernest Hemingway, the Cosh have been to Europe, enjoyed the hell out of it and then come back to North America to write about it.
This week on the pod, we start with tales from the road as we recount racial profiling and Totti miracles in Rome, pretzels and Neo-Nazis in Berlin, rumblings of protest at the Emirates, and how to eat croissants with a spoon in Barcelona.
First thing the next morning we were on a train from Liverpool Street Station to Stanstead Airport, and from there on a Ryanair flight to Barcelona that was so ‘no-frills’ that there weren’t even seat-back pockets. When the cabin crew came around with duty-free magazines, Mohaned rightly asked “even if I wanted one, where would I put it?”, which kind of sums up Arsene Wenger’s thoughts on buying a new striker.

I get up when I want, except on Saturdays, when I get rudely awakened by Martin Tyler. I put my sweatpants on, have a cup of coffee and I think about not leaving the house till all games are finished. I feed myself – I sometimes feed myself twice. This week, Gerard Pique came out and said that if Barcelona and Real Madrid were to go to the Premier League right now they would have no chance of winning the Premier League title, at least not in their first season. His rationale? “If you go to Stoke, or other types of teams, then it will be really tough.”
While I believe a title challenge is obviously within our grasp in what can only be classed as an ‘unusual’ top flight season, the new focus on keeping goals out is something not seen in these parts for some time. United have usually been the sexy, gallivanting team in years past – not the one who puts steely defence above all.

Relatively unambitious (Remy).
Too old to expect a first team spot (Drogba) or too young and unestablished (Wilson) to expect a first team spot.
In decline or poor form and thus understanding that they do not merit a first team place (Falcao, Soldado, Van Persie).
Willing and able to play another position in order to get game time (Walcott, Welbeck).
The Coshcast returns and we dive straight into the Premier League where City beat Chelsea 3-0 and like a young man on Maury Povich receiving a positive paternity test, Mourinho declares it a fake result.
One wonders what the reaction will be once he inevitably owns the scoring record for both club and country. Will it be one of grudging respect or will these feats allow fans to realize how lucky they’ve been to see him play?
