While I admire the Mourinho mentality that says, “if we’re in a competition, we’ll try to win it”, I don’t think any United fan will look back on 2016/17 as another treble season. With all apologies to Liverpool and what some dubbed the ‘Mickey Mouse treble’, this campaign is just barely a double. I mean, the Community Shield isn’t a major trophy, is it?
Today the PFA announces it’s nominees for the PFA Player of the year award. The nominees are Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eden Hazard, Alexis Sanchez and Ngolo Kante. After last year’s Leicester miracle, the nominees all come from the traditional big boys. We delve deep into the topic and discuss who will win, who should win and if there any glaring errors. They’ve been an enigma this season. They’ve played good football, they’ve controlled games and created chances aplenty. This is the football every Manchester United fan wanted to see after the days of LVG’s “possession” game, filled with sideways and backwards passes.
