It’s important to remember that the vast majority of the French squad is originally of African descent. They didn’t shy away from their roots, in fact they used it to unify the squad and bring the non-Africans aboard and Pogba was the architect of this. If you didn’t smile watching Antoine Griezmann trying to shaku shaku with the African boys then you might just be an angry old man.
This week on the Coshcast:
West Ham have signed Felipe Anderson, Cristiano Ronaldo has joined Juventus, France have won the World Cup and Vladimir Putin has gone from handing out golden medals to dossiers with golden showers in the space of two days.
I was too young to understand what was happening when the Super Eagles set the world alight at USA ’94. Due to time difference, my parents deemed it too late for me to stay up to watch Nigeria beat Brazil and then Argentina to win Gold at the […]
With Diego Costa’s imminent return to the Atletico side, it will be absolutely fascinating to see how the pair combine in a partnership that looks, on paper like it should work brilliantly. Costa the aggressive, sociopath bully ready to drive defenders bonkers, Griezmann the impish magician, darting around him into the spaces the opposition barely registered.
Everything has finally been decided. The Champions League Final saw a powerhouse club retain their title, the relegation playoffs are complete and it’s time to sit down with a Yann Tiersen record playing and go over the season of French football that was.
What is Jose Mourinho trying to do by defending Pogba so ferociously? Alex: Relieve the perceived pressure on Pog. The press and fans are obviously paying very close attention to every Pogba performance such that he is questioned every time he isn’t brilliant. This is the state of […]
En Avant de Guingamp is a team that has mastered the art of the cup run, electrifying fans and giving them memories to pass on to their children whilst remaining a charmingly regional outfit. In a slight deviation from regular programming, I actually spoke to a fan of the Breton club – an old friend from my Liverpool days – Liam Kelly.

Last season Angers SCO finished 9th in the table, but that doesn’t really tell the whole story of their campaign. Back in the top division after over two decades, the expectation was for the team to largely act as fodder for their bigger rivals, with relegation certainly not out of the equation. Instead, based on a solid defensive set-up devised by coach Stéphane Moulin, Angers spent much of the season in contention for European competition…
The idea is to take a closer look at French football, choosing not to scale the PSG monolith, but instead searching for stories in the tattered remains of the clubs that have crashed into it. I’m looking forward to this as there’s always been a hint of Francophilia in my veins; I liked Amelie, I own several stripy sweaters and my favourite skater is Lucas Puig.

After an intense and relatively successful 2014/2015 campaign under Marcelo Bielsa, Marseille had a tense summer. Top players left, their replacements came in on the cheap, and their combustible Argentine manager walked out on the club after the first game of the new season. How would the club react? Here to tell us is French football expert Mohamed Mohamed.
This past weekend, England came back from two goals down to beat Germany, the country that defeated the three lions in the semi-final of Euro 96 and went on to win the whole thing. For the first time in what feels likes centuries, the top two scorers in the English Premier League are English.

Financial Fair Play (FFP) has it’s believers and it’s skeptics. I for one, am currently pulling splinters out of my backside from sitting on the fence for too long. Unfortunately, I’ll be doing it for a while longer because I am still perched on that fence. Irrespective of […]
