Dier is likeable. He’s positionally and tactically versatile. His attitude and teamwork are beyond reproach. He’s intelligent, has (sort of) spoken out against Brexit, and he’s one of very few English people players that speaks another language, in this case, Portuguese. These are all good reasons to want to have him around. But he needs less coddling.

Lukaku being a flat track bully is an indisputable fact based on these statistics. The question is whether it is his fault. The answer, for the most part, is no.
Everton now have a mammoth challenge ahead of them in what is one of the weirdest transfer decisions this off-season: to get a player on 250 grand a week who is very much past his prime, to play like a star signing.
For a while, United seemed to be focusing on replacing the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic with one (or maybe two) of Alvaro Morata, Andrea Belotti or Romelu Lukaku. So far, United haven’t been able to push a striker through the door. As a result, Mourinho is now focusing on central midfield. The international break hasn’t broken the most international of podcasts, although…to be honest it nearly did.

To hear them talk about the education of young players, about the work ethic they instill in their own children, about the countless hours they voluntarily put into learning Spanish as quickly as possible, about the way they would like their teams to play and their players behave, makes one sit up and take notice. It is infectious. It makes one want to stand up and shout “preach” or “amen” as if in church. It makes one think “if this was my coach, manager or boss I would hang on every word”. Such is the passion, clarity and earnestness with which they speak about the game.

The England national team – A football club so richly steeped in national dishonour they would be more aptly associated with Marcus Junius Brutus than seen as the inventors of the greatest sport of all time. A team so unjustly engulfed in optimism, they are, somehow, masters of under-performing – even though they have only ever won one major competition in their pathetic 141 year history. A team so shit that their fans are forced to quote a senile, fair-weathered, narcissistic old man like Pele in a bid to gain credibility.
When you assess the abilities of Giroud and Walcott, they are both half an ideal striker. If you combined the two you’d get a beautiful Franglo physical specimen with gorgeous hair, extreme quickness and 25-30 goals a season.
