Chelsea: Someone Turan Box-to-Box

The rumours that Chelsea are one of three Premier League clubs talking to Atletico Madrid’s Arda Turan got me thinking about the potential tactical ramifications for the Blues next season. Does this spell the end for Oscar? Or at least the beginning of a more bit-part role? We […]

Arsenal: Season Review

To me it was obvious that the team needed another experienced centrback to provide cover and competition. I also wondered why he didn’t get a proper defensive midfielder, seeing that the injury-prone Arteta’s performances had declined in the latter part of the previous season, and the fact that Flamini just isn’t a very good footballer.

Manchester United – Season Review

Louis van Gaal’s first season at Manchester United has been fun to watch from a neutral point of view. Big signings failing to make an impact, players who were once thrown on the scrap-heap coming back to prove their worth, a philosophical battle between 3-5-2 and 4-3-3…we’ve seen it all. Here to give us a United perspective on the whole season, is Ken Frampton. Follow Ken on Twitter at @kframpton

Matchday 36: Is it over yet?

So, Chelsea ended up winning the league in unspectacular fashion last weekend, and now there is not much else to play for. Or is there? After dramatic finishes in the past couple of years, it is a bit underwhelming when a season finishes without any real surprises. Nonetheless, […]

The English in Europe

A Bundesliga aficionado will come at you hard with impeccably high fan attendance figures, mercurial stadia and passionate fan support with – bar Bayern Munich – relatively good financial equality between clubs. A La Liga advocate will always argue that the Spanish league houses the world’s best talents as well as cite Spanish clubs’ recent domination of European competitions. English fans’ best retort has predictably been the high competitive level between Premier League teams.

AFCON 2015: Stars, Thunder, and Foxes

Hosting a tournament of this size requires national budget approvals in democracies. The only countries that can get these done are incredibly football mad ones or ones run by dictators. Equatorial Guinea falls in the latter category and it should be of no surprise to anyone that their nickname is “National Thunder.”
