Today I received an email from my dad with the subject: “FIFA UNDER THE COSH.” The subject line was brilliant and gave us an idea on how to approach this touchy subject.
On May 24th, 2014, the lads and I watched Real Madrid win La Decima at Real Sports Bar in Toronto. The historic nature of that victory overcame us all as if we were Madridistas ourselves. As we all know, Atletico Madrid were one minute away from pulling off […]
It was a season that promised to much for L’OM. A new manager with a temperament to match the city’s, a young, hungry and talented squad with a point to prove, and as always a fan-base that never shirks their duties in terms of producing an atmosphere. Everything started brilliantly. Somewhere along the line, though, the milk turned sour. To tell us more, here’s French football expert, Mohamed Mohamed. Follow him on Twitter at @MoeSquare.
As we discussed on our most recent podcast, it’s been one of the most bizarre seasons in Liverpool’s recent history. After blowing the Premiership away last time around, the Reds and Brendan Rodgers have struggled for consistency and togetherness in a season punctuated by flashpoints. Balotelli being dropped, […]

The final day is here! The title race may be over, the top four may be decided, but there is still a small battle for the final Europa League spot mainly between Tottenham and Southampton. Our final relegation spot hasn’t been fully decided yet either, as Hull City […]
Louis van Gaal’s first season at Manchester United has been fun to watch from a neutral point of view. Big signings failing to make an impact, players who were once thrown on the scrap-heap coming back to prove their worth, a philosophical battle between 3-5-2 and 4-3-3…we’ve seen it all. Here to give us a United perspective on the whole season, is Ken Frampton. Follow Ken on Twitter at @kframpton

In this installment, friend of the blog and Chelsea aficionado Jesus Martinez takes us through the remarkably smooth journey that was the Blues’ title-winning campaign. Welcome to Episode 38! We showed them passion. The Coshcast returns after an action-packed week of football. In the Champions League, Juve go Morata-tat-tat as they gun down Real Madrid, and Barcelona get through despite doing a poor job of parking the Busquets against Bayern. The Premiership is […]
The penultimate game of the season is upon us and things have settled down. The Champions of almost every league in Europe have been decided. La Liga, as well, is all but decided. Rumours have been circulating of managerial and player movements. A worthy note must be made […]
Welcome to Episode 37! Watch out for sink holes. The Coshcast returns! In Toronto it’s getting muggy. In the Premier League meanwhile, Leicester mug Southampton to extend their unbelievable run. QPR fall apart more completey than Harry Redknapp’s knees and Liverpool guard Chelsea’s honour. In La Liga, Moyes […]
Lionel Messi brought the magic back to football and made me stare at my ball and my boots for hours on end wishing my ankle wasn’t sore.
So, Chelsea ended up winning the league in unspectacular fashion last weekend, and now there is not much else to play for. Or is there? After dramatic finishes in the past couple of years, it is a bit underwhelming when a season finishes without any real surprises. Nonetheless, […]
A.S. Roma started this season like a house on fire. Their new signings had bedded in well, Rudi Garcia was the name on everybody’s lips, and it looked as though the Giallorossi would genuinely push Juventus all the way in the race for lo Scudetto. Since around the […]
On Saturday, April 18 Under The Cosh travelled to the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan to meet Paul Stalteri. Stalteri, who retired in 2013, is Canada’s most-capped player, captained his country on 30 occasions, and was in the Canadian team that won the Gold Cup in 2000. In […]

Into the final three games of the league season and the champions are a foregone conclusion. Are Chelsea really boring or should we be inspired by their grit? The old adage “offense wins games, defense wins championships” could have some meaning, here. Then again, could we argue that a […]

The 34th match day of the season is upon us and the general consensus is that the title will be won by Chelsea (surprise, surprise), while the battle for spots 2, 3, and 4 look nearly settled other than which particular order those teams will finish in. Meanwhile, […]
Welcome to Episode 34! Subscribe on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/under-the-cosh-coshcast/id767743946 Welcome everybody to the wild, wild west, you’ll be out of that dress when you meet our football analysis. In the FA Cup, the Emirates is often described as a library but Arsenal just about got their Reading done, and Tim […]
The TV scheduling gods have royally screwed up this weekend. Chelsea against Manchester United is clearly the biggest fixture, but it’s being played at the same time as Arsenal’s FA Cup semi-final against Reading. What kind of nonsense is that? Never mind. There are also a few other […]
Welcome to Episode 33! Subscribe on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/under-the-cosh-coshcast/id767743946 This week on the Coshcast, United tie City up and whip them harder than Anastasia Steele, while Sherwood and Pardew compete for best cockney manager award as both their sides win again. In La Liga, Barcelona drop points while in Seria […]
The season is grinding its way to a dramatic conclusion, at least where the top four and relegation battles are concerned. It will take multiple Gerrard-esque slips for Chelsea concede the title now, but beneath them, Arsenal, City and United are battling it out to decide which of the top four spots each get.
Eliaquim Mangala has so far been a big bust, and Bacary Sagna has been a wage gobbling non-event. What Fernando does, I’m not quite sure.
So why does Pardew not get the credit he deserves? The man has a reputation problem. The problem is that he has the reputation of being an absolute bell-end.

Matchday 31 brings us the first of the final eight games of the season. Home stretch. This is right about the time that all the season’s ups and downs come together, once and for all. This is the business end of the season. This is, “squeaky bum time”. […]

El Clasico is upon us once again. Despite how I may sometimes feel about the fixture, we get to see two of the world’s best teams and two of the world’s best player’s go at it. In fact, we should be watching two of the world’s best front […]
It’s coming thick and fast. The Champions League and Europa League knockout phases are now causing the fixture schedule to burst at the seams. Managers are under immense pressure to get the balancing and rotation of their squads right as we approach the final stretch of the season. […]
Watching Arsenal in the Champions League is much akin to going to an extremely good strip club (I’d imagine). They are sexy and exciting, exotic and enticing, and yet after you’ve spent a good deal of money to watch them for an hour and a half, you are likely to be left achingly frustrated.

We also coaxed him into discussing the current Liverpool side and Simon Mignolet especially. Enjoy! Below […]
I’m not one to bet against Manchester United but I don’t see how they’ll win this game. Good teams have come to Old Trafford and shown absolutely no fear. Tottenham will do exactly the same in this encounter.
Welcome to Episode 28! We are looking forward to the BIG ONE! Subscribe on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/under-the-cosh-coshcast/ Feels like forever doesn’t it? The Coshcast comes roaring back like Barcelona in the quest for La Liga. In The Premiership, Kane keeps producing, while the FA cup sees Tactics Tim get a brace […]
A Bundesliga aficionado will come at you hard with impeccably high fan attendance figures, mercurial stadia and passionate fan support with – bar Bayern Munich – relatively good financial equality between clubs. A La Liga advocate will always argue that the Spanish league houses the world’s best talents as well as cite Spanish clubs’ recent domination of European competitions. English fans’ best retort has predictably been the high competitive level between Premier League teams.
Matchday 27. Only 11 games to go in the league this season! As we mentioned last week, “Squeaky Bum Time” is now in full swing. Let’s recap what happened last weekend: Recap of scores from Matchday 26: Chelsea 1-1 Burnley: A shock for the champions-elect as Burnley stole a […]

After a few seasons bouncing around the Championship on more loans than the Greek economy, failing at each club and facing criminal charges on multiple occasions, he is being rewarded with a four year deal at one of Italy’s most prestigious clubs. How has this happened?

When I went back to Juventus, [Gianni] Agnelli called me and told me he had to sell Zidane,” Lippi recalled in an interview with Sky. “He was the best player in the world, but they gave us €77m (£58m), he told me not to worry, that it would all be spent on the team. “We bought, [Gianluigi] Buffon, [Pavel] Nedved and [Lilian] Thuram, regrouped and the team kept winning. – Marcelo Lippi
