EPL Matchday 2 Predictions (24/08/2013)

As you recall, we have decided to try our hands at predicting the scores of the Premier league games for each matchday for the top 6 teams. 1 point is awarded for the correct outcome and 3 points for a perfect score. At the beginning of each week of predictions, we will remind you of last weeks action and results and the overall points tally for the three of us.

Previous Matchday Scores:

Matchday 1

Matchday 2 Predictions:

Wednesday August 21st:

Chelsea vs Aston villa:

BernieChelsea at home will have way too much authority in midfield for Villa. Benteke should score though. 3-1 Chelsea.

Mohaned: Villa gave arsenal a tough time but Chelsea will be a totally different challenge. I expect benteke to score but Chelsea’s free flowing play will get them the win. 3-1 Chelsea.

Rishay: 4-1 Chelsea. Last season’s fixture ended 8-0 for Chelsea, but Villa’s 3-1 win to start the season might give them a slight improvement. Chelsea have racked up some big scorelines against villa in past seasons.

Saturday August 24th:

Fulham vs Arsenal:

Bernie: 1-0 Arsenal. A lot of injuries for the gunners and Fulham are usually good at home. I expect a tight affair but Arsenal might nick it.

Mohaned: Arsenal with a lot of injuries. Good game in their champions league qualifier and if they keep that form up then they should win. Craven Cottage is always a slippery place for Arsenal but i think they will do it. 2-0 Arsenal.

Rishay: 2-1 Arsenal. Arsenal are desperate to put last week’s performance behind them. The injury to the Ox won’t help them much but I can see this one being a tight affair.

Aston Villa v Liverpool:

Bernie: I’m going 1-1 again. Villa impressed against arsenal but I’m not sure their defense is strong to contain Sturridge and Coutinho.

Mohaned: Villa will score again I believe. Its just how much. Liverpool will also score but their defense can be culpable. Villa’s record at home was abysmal last season. 2-1 liverpool.

Rishay: 2-0 Liverpool. I’m going to stay on the side of Liverpool on this one because I think Villa will be tired from their Arsenal and Chelsea games. Liverpool might have fortune on the right side of the post this season given their fortuitous start with Mignolet the hero.

Sunday August 25th:

Cardiff v Man City:

Bernie: Cardiff will enjoy a home game of this magnitude but City should over power them. 3-0 City

Mohaned: I dont think Cardiff will score. Its a question of how many for city. I think this wont be as easy think. 2-0 to city.

Rishay: 4-0 Man City. Who is Cardiff? exactly. Stroll in the park. Both Manchester teams have started the season strong and this kind of fixture will presumably be 3 points.

Tottenham v Swansea:

Bernie: 2-1 Spurs. Spurs have added pieces but couldn’t put the sword to Palace. Swansea will be seeking redemption but perhaps won’t have enough. Soldado to score again.

Mohaned: Spurs are just getting started. Last result was a squeaky 1-0 but at home they might put on a show. 3-1 spurs.

Rishay: 2-2 draw. Tottenham haven’t been putting teams away emphatically and I think the Swans will give them some trouble at the back with their style of play.

Sunday August 25th:

GAME OF THE WEEK – Man Utd vs Chelsea:

man utd chelsea

With the Rooney saga continuing and new rumors of a Mata-Rooney switch, this game will be more than just the score. Most interestingly will Wayne Rooney play and if he does how does he handle playing against the team he apparently wants to join? All we know is that this early season blockbuster is a treat and will give us a real indication of both teams strengths and weaknesses.

Bernie: 2-2 draw. Definitely the game of the week bar none. Chelsea’s midfield is awesome, United’s lightweight. Chelsea’s attack is stale, United have Van Persie. Both have solid defenses. I can’t pick so it’s a draw for me.

Mohaned: Hard to call. On paper chelsea should win but Man Utd somehow always raise their game in the big games. Moyes’s inexperience might be a problem but RVP will again play a big role. 1-1 draw.

Rishay: 2-1 Chelsea. The pattern of this fixture is usually like this: United for the first 30 minutes, Chelsea for the rest of the match. Chelsea are the stronger team overall but United have the better attack. However, Chelsea will be dangerous on the counter as we saw in last season’s fixtures. In last season’s fixtures, United got away with murder at Stamford Bridge in a 3-2 game ruined by a silly sending off and an offside goal. Benitez’s Chelsea won 1-0 at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture. Let’s see what the headlines will be this time round.

    • True. That would work. We just dont want to make the scoring too complicated. We will look into it though. Could be a good idea
